Pinewood Reservoir

Pinewood Reservoir, previously Rattlesnake Reservoir

Pinewood Reservoir, formed by Rattlesnake Dam, serves as part of the Estes Park-Foothills Power System.

Construction began in 1951 and was completed a year later. Originally known as Rattlesnake Reservoir because of its location in Rattlesnake Park, the reservoir's name was officially changed to Pinewood in 1966.

The power component produces hydroelectricity as Colorado-Big Thompson Project water falls nearly half a mile on its way to Colorado's Front Range.

Pinewood Reservoir has dual purposes: It is the afterbay to Pole Hill Power Plant and the forebay for Flatiron Power Plant. In each role, the reservoir regulates flows and manages peak power demands.

Pinewood's recreational facilities are managed by Larimer County Parks and Open Lands.
